Ginny Deerin
Founder
A WINGer since 1996
Before starting WINGS in 1996, Ginny spent two decades as a marketing and fundraising executive in Charleston. She served as vice president at the marketing, advertising and public relations firm, Rawle-Murdy. Her work in political campaigns helped elect numerous public officials including the mayor, a governor and a U.S. senator. As a professional fundraiser, she worked at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, the Medical University of South Carolina and the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina. Ginny has a son, and a daughter who’s a former WINGS kid, and she loves living at the beach. Read how Ginny decided to give kids WINGS. -
Bridget Laird
CEO
A WINGer since 1998
Bridget has worked on the WINGS staff since 1998, training alongside WINGS’ spirited founder, Ginny Deerin. Throughout her years with WINGS she has gained experience with all aspects of the organization, specifically: developing program curriculum; hiring of staff; overseeing the opening of each WINGS program; and spearheading important grant applications and research projects.
Bridget took over as WINGS’ CEO in January 2011. Bridget has an undergraduate degree in parks and recreation from North Carolina State University and a master's degree in education, with a concentration in school-age development from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. She is member of the Charleston Volunteer for Literacy Board and the Sports Challenge Advisory Board and is also an adjunct professor at Trident Technical College. Bridget is married and has a 7 year old daughter and a baby boy.

Julia Rugg
Chief Program Officer
A WINGer since 2011
Julia joined the WINGS staff in July 2011, bringing with her a multitude of skills as a small business owner, former attorney, and experiences in the nonprofit and corporate industries. Julia is a Baltimore native with an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. She recently moved from Philadelphia to Charleston with her husband, two year old daughter, and off beat Weimaraner Bruno. During off time, she loves to kayak, hike, and go to the beach with her family.

Nicole Lovecchio
Regional Operations Director
A WINGer since 2002
Nicole has worked on the WINGS staff in our learning laboratory at Memminger Elementary School since 2002, and served as Program Director there beginning in 2004. She counseled youth and their families during two years at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and has a juvenile justice degree from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA. During her free time, she loves to run and spend time with family and friends. In 2009 she was recognized as a promising leader on the “Forty under 40” list in the Charleston Regional Business Journal. -
Adam Pomerantz
Director of Finance and Administration
A WINGer since 2009
Adam joined WINGS in 2009. Prior to doing so, Adam worked in commercial real estate development and received his MBA from The University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. He also taught sixth grade and coached the school’s cross country team. Outside of work, Adam enjoys spending time with his wife and son, eating good food, running and riding his bike. -
Liz Mester
Director of Development
A WINGer since 2007
Liz has worked for WINGS in our corporate office since 2007, when she began as a part-time Administrative Assistant. She graduated from the College of Charleston in 2004 with a degree in Arts Management. Before coming to WINGS, Liz worked for local arts related non-profits where she practiced her management, PR and budding development skills. In her free time Liz likes to cook, travel and love on her 10 year-old Golden Retriever, Barbara.

Lee Hilton
Behavior Specialist
A WINGer since 2010
Lee joined the WINGS team in 2010 as the Peace Manager and Assistant Director at James Simons Elementary. She now serves as the WINGS Behavior Specialist and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Lee earned her MS from the University of South Carolina and is a National Board Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Prior to joining WINGS Lee spent time working for the Boys and Girls Club and the GA Department of Mental Health. Lee enjoys spending time with her niece, traveling, and live music.

Heather Williams
Program Director, Chicora Elementary
A WINGer since 2006
Heather began working for WINGS in 2006 as a WINGSLeader at Memminger Elementary. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston, where she earned a B.S. in psychology. Heather returned to the WINGS program the summer of 2010 to serve as Program Director at Chicora Elementary, and when she’s not working she enjoys baking and reading books.

Stephanie Smith
Program Director, North Charleston Elementary School
A WINGer since 2007
Stephanie joined WINGS in 2007 as a WINGSLeader at Memminger Elementary.
In 2009 she helped to open a new WINGS program at North Charleston Elementary, and she now serves as the Program Director for North Charleston. Stephanie graduated in 2010 from the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Physical Education and a concentration in Health Promotion. In her free time she enjoys running, serving as an extra on the television show “Army Wives,” and spending time with her family and friends. -
Cheryl Hollis
Program Director, James Simons Elementary
A WINGer since 2003
Cheryl joined the WINGS staff in 2003 as a WINGSLeader at Memminger Elementary. After graduating from the College of Charleston in 2006 with an undergraduate degree in Communications, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she spent three years as a teacher in the field of early childhood education. In June 2010 she returned to her WINGS roots and took on the role of Program Director at James Simons Elementary, a new program for WINGS. She enjoys traveling, listening to music, spending time with her husband and dog, and enjoying different restaurants.

Shameka Waiters
Program Director, Memminger Elementary
A WINGer since 2006
Shameka joined WINGS in 2006 as a WINGSLeader. In 2007 she graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.S. in Physical Education. She is currently earning her master’s degree in social work, and in 2010 returned to WINGS to take on the role of Assistant Program Director/ Peace Manager at James Simons Elementary. When she’s not at WINGS Shameka enjoys spending time with family and friends, blogging, and getting lost in the stacks at Barnes and Nobles.

Piper Grandjean
Performance Management Administrator
A WINGer since 2011
Piper joined WINGS in January 2011. She is tasked with making WINGS’ data collection more efficient and finding ways to improve upon WINGS’ outcomes. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Statistics from the University of Wyoming, with an emphasis in research in the social sciences. She has experience working with adults and children in the mental health field and as an outdoor activities facilitator. Piper has lived in Charleston for two years and is enjoying the warm weather, living near the beach, and spending time with her pets.

Kimberly Willis
Corporate Assistant
A WINGer since 2011
Kimberly joined the WINGS team in 2011 as Corporate Assistant and is currently pursuing bachelor degrees in both Communications and Marketing. She has lived in South Carolina since infancy, growing up in Columbia and moving to Charleston in 2002. Kimberly comes to WINGS with a background in project management, office administration, and advocacy work primarily legal and medical. In her free time she enjoys singing at weddings and local venues and often performs the national anthem for the Charleston Riverdogs baseball team. She and her dog, Cooper, enjoy spending time outside and traveling to visit friends and family.

Allison Creedman
AmeriCorps*VISTA
A WINGer since 2011
Allison kicked off her year of service with AmeriCorps and joined the WINGS staff in August 2011. A native of Florence, SC, Allison graduated from the University of Virginia in May with a B.A. in Religious Studies. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, attending concerts, cheering on the UVa Cavaliers and Carolina Gamecocks, and exploring her new city.
