Non-profits need to find a way to take lessons from the corporate world when they make sense for us.  The lessons provided in Leaders at ALL Levels provides some that we should all learn.  The world will be a better place if we indentify people at all levels of our organization who we can mentor and coach to develop them into powerful leaders who can take our organizations to a higher level.  This book is particularly helpful to any organizations anticipating succession plans – of course that is all of us.

Social and emotional learning and emotional intelligence are key to leadership development.

Learning from those around us - a new type of classroom

I feel like we keep hearing this stream of thought over and over again: successful leaders are made up of more than just knowledge and number crunching. Truly successful managers, CEO's, exec's and president's are motivated, self-confident and self aware - skills that can be developed and shaped with enough practice, patience and of course, with a good teacher. When Stephen Spielberg recieved the Cecil B. Demille award this year at the Golden Globes his acceptance speech echoed this very thought, book and blog. He told the audience about the mentors and teachers he had throughout the course of his extrememly successful career. He then urged everyone in the business to take action by mentoring. This, he said is the way greatness is born, how a sense of community is developed and how creativity is spread. And, he's right.
