Daniel Goleman, who popularized the term emotional intelligence, rightly proclaims Malcolm Gladwell’s new book “Outliers” as good news for anyone who would like to see success in life widely shared. Goleman points out in his blog that “one way to give every child a greater chance for career success – and a good life in general – would be to have curricula in social and emotional learning a standard part of schooling. WINGS gradually and systematically teaches these vital life skills to kids who especially need them since they are growing up in poverty.

Well-duhhh

Haven't we been saying this for years. Every week I get the privilege of emailing all the teachers the objectives of the week. They ALWAYS tell me how helpful and useful our objectives are in the classroom. I have even had teachers say how some of the WINGS kids are able to apply the creed. Having these life lessons included in the classroom would make for a better over-all education. It's important that the kids are academically, socially and emotionally stimulated.

mini-Obamas

It would be great to see the number of mini-Obamas that would sprout due to the introduction of SEL in school! Just like Obama's ability to control emotional outburst, kids everywhere would be able to control the urge to fight, do drugs, or make other decisions that could have a negative impact on their lives. It would be great to see how many kids grow up to run for president!

Free, if you want it

In this time of economic trouble, we're all trying to get the most bang for our buck. What if you could be the recipient of never-ending free products - would you invest a little time and patience? That is one of the best features of WINGS and the Wings for kids website: free social and emotional skills! At your fingertips are all the tools you will need to better yourself, your kids, friends and co-workers. Success is waiting for you.
