Never mind the card, flowers and candy. This Valentine's Day I'm making myself a promise to nag less and feedback more with my loved ones. HEARTcharts are a powerful reminder of the three easy steps  - DESCRIBE the situation, DESCRIBE the behavior, STATE the effect. These social skills activities and problem solving tips are truly useful.

It works

Out of all of the social skills activities that we teach, feedback might be the simplest. It is so easy but so effective. I use feedback 4-5 times a day with my 4 year old. Just the other day she spilled her drink and went and I told her to get a rag to clean it up. I said "Reese, just now when you spilled and then got a rag to clean it up, that showed me you are responsible and want to fix mistakes when you make them. That makes me happy and saves me time so I can make your lunch." Honestly, she has spilled about 4 times since and she has went to get a rag without me having to say a word. I think that is pretty good for a 4 year old! Feedback works.
