How do you tickle a gorilla? Very carefully. Watch this hilarious National Geographic video of a gorilla giggling, which scientists say adds to their "laugh data" proving that primates have been expressing positive emotions like joy as far back as 6 million years ago.

Visit WINGS and learn more about expressing positive emotions and what it says about your intelligence

Emotions are contagious! At

Emotions are contagious! At WINGS, we emphasize being a bus driver. A WINGSLeader standing at the front door, ready to greet kids and give them positive words as soon as they enter the cafeteria can really turn a kid's day around. I have witnessed kids coming to WINGS after having a rough school day, or a problem with a friend, or just tired. Once they realize that someone is prepared to share happiness and laughter with them, they seem to get in a better mood. It is amazing to see kids who had a rough day be influenced by you, but it is even more rewarding to see them positively affect another person's attitude. While at WINGS, I always try to "sneak" in laughter and joy into the social skills activities that I do with the kids. I even find myself doing this with friends!

Be a Bus Driver!

At our WINGS staff training, in addition to teaching our social skills activities, we do an activity called "Be A Bus Driver."  It is basically about how a bunch of tired, cranky people get onto a bus and are greeted with a great big "HELLO" and smile from the Bus Driver. The Bus Driver then starts to tell stories and jokes and suddenly the tired, cranky riders are giggling and smiling. Emotions are contagious. We teach our staff to be bus drivers so our kids can experience a positive environment everyday!

Laughing's contagious

One of my favorite things to do is to laugh. We all have our days when we might not feel like going to work. When someone says something funny, it makes your day much better. At WINGS, we like to tell our staff to be 'bus drivers,' meaning, smile because when you smile, you make someone else smile. Staff and kids feed off of my vibes, so I make sure I'm positive at all times for them. It can be exhausting, but knowing that I'm expressing positive emotions and sharing them with others makes it worth it.
