Provocative commentary in today's Wall Street Journal - "What's Wrong with Charitable Giving and How to Fix It" - declares that foundations ought to increase general operating support and multi-year funding of nonprofits. The contention of Pablo Eisenberg, Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership at Georgetown Public Policy Institute in Washington D.C., is that philanthropy "will need to change the way it does business and sets its priorities."

Support, like the Creed says

When a foundation provides a multi-year grant, it shows they believe in the work the organization is doing. They understand it takes a longer comittment to truly support it. Often times non-profits are pressured into performing too quickly. Multi-year grants feel good because it gives the organization some time to focus on work rather than worrying about where the next stream of funding will come from. Glad there are people out there thinking about this.
