New legislation has just been introduced in the U.S. House to establish a national training center for social and emotional learning and provide grants to states and school districts to implement SEL programs. Jennifer Buffett, president of the NoVo Foundation, called it a "pivotal moment" and a "major step" that underlines that the Movement to advance social and emotional learning is gaining national momentum. Rep. Dale Kildee, D-MI, one of the sponors of the measure, said: "By making social and emotional leaning part of every child’s education, we are giving the next generation the skills they need for productive and confident lives."

Great!

This is exciting news for all SEL advocates. It is wonderful to see the interest and comittment to SEL grow.

I believe that this is a huge

I believe that this is a huge step for the children of our future. I think that this will help them to focus less about the negative aspects and more on how they could become more positive throughout everyday life. This will assist them in making better choices, and could possibly lower the crime rate as a long term goal.
