In this video clip, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio discuss the power of social and emotional learning at a recent hearing on Capitol Hill.

When Ryan asserts that "we've got to teach kids how to regulate their emotions," the education secretary agrees vehemently.

"Children can have huge challenges, but when you help them learn how to handle them, you have a chance," Duncan says. "When you don't, they can't get past the challenges and can't begin to think about what is going on in class. ...If we are not addressing this, we're not in the game."

Says Ryan: "This is a very, very cost-effective way of doing business." They refer to new much-needed legislation providing funding to help implement social and emotional learning programs across the country, now under consideration by the House Education and Labor Committee.

Hearing aids

That would be a very good help for the students to be confident in doing their school activities. Plus, it is also a good help for the parents who cannot afford those aids. Financial emergencies occur every now and again, and sometimes people wonder just what their possibilities if they don't have the needed petty cash to cover it. Well, you can use credit cards, but some people have bad credit and can't get them, or others just don't like using them. (That's definitely understandable.) You can in addition try payday advance lenders – either an actual store or online – and get a small loan to hold you until payday. Like credit cards, as long as you're cautious and responsible, there's nothing inherently wrong or bad about them.

Great

It is great to hear Secretary Duncan echo what WINGS has believed for such a long time. Kids can do better in school when they have well developed SEL skills. I'm so glad WINGS has been focused on this for 13 years. I feel like we are ahead of the game.
