Yesterday marked the first day of fall and I found myself feeling a little nostalgic for the carefree, sunny summer days of 3-hour lunch breaks and half-days….

Oh, how I wish that was the truth!

We at WINGS were busier than ever this summer. June, July and August were a whirlwind of promotions, additions, decisions, new schools, more kids and getting great.  It’s only appropriate that as we move into fall, we pay homage to the hard work of the summer.  No worries – we had fun, too.

Staff grows up and gets big!
- We hired SIX new, full-time employees this summer
- THREE employees were promoted to new positions
- A surprise was delivered in the form of TWO Wings babies due this winter

Hello James Simons Elementary!
- 90 additional kids are now getting an awesome life skills curriculum in the form of WINGS

Dancin’ in the Streets!
- WINGS pulled off the craziest, nuttiest, most successful fundraiser
 - TWO days of dancing in Marion Square = $124,000 raised!
 - Lots of press and lots of new donors – a major accomplishment for us

AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps
 - We did it!  WINGS nabbed a very honorable AmeriCorps grant
 - Welcome, Ashley Hackman, our NEW AmeriCorps*VISTA

This summer was a lot of work and a lot of change – but we were a team (or flock) moving (or flying) in the right direction.  AND – it was and continues to be all for our kids, all 460 that we now proudly serve in our after school programs – daily.

So, goodbye summer and hello fall.  You’re already in full-swing.

Summer is over?!

Where did the past few months go?!  It seems like we were always flying from meeting to meeting, program to program, training to training...  Fortunately it looks like all of that hard work has paid off - we have four awesome programs running and we're giving WINGS to more kids than ever before.

Go WINGS

Yes, it was a crazy summer indeed! It's so nice to see the hard work has paid off.
