Nestle now sells something called "Brain Development Juice" as part of the Juicy Juice brand of drinks for kids. It contains DHA, which aids brain growth. Vitamins and minerals are good, but what breakthroughs in brain science have shown us is better than any supplement - that a steady and effective program to help children acquire and practice social and emotional skills improves their chances for success and happiness. It's not as easy as buying a certain brand of juice, but the results will last a lifetime.

 The New York Times and the Boston Globe had big stories about teaching social and emotional skills to kids.  

Excerpt:  While some people - Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one, Ronald Reagan another - seem born with a gift for emotional perception, the rest of us muddle through as we can. School is set up for one kind of learning, but when it comes to emotional matters, the assumption has always been that these are instincts we have to develop for ourselves.

Read today's New York Times article:  Gossip Girls and Boys Get Lesson in Empathy.  The focus is Scarsdale Middle School.  "The emphasis on empathy here and in schools nationwide is the latest front in a decade-long campaign against bullying and violence. Many urban districts have found empathy workshops and curriculums help curb fighting and other misbehavior. "

Love this Polyvore site where anyone can put together his/her own look in a digital collage that is easier than playing with paper dolls.  It's fun to create different looks like this outfit complete with ostrich-feather purse!  Helping our WINGS kids develop and discover their own personal style means equipping them with self awareness skills.  And always remind them - be yourself!
