She Has WINGS!
Allison Creedman

23 year-old AmeriCorps VISTA Allison Creedman completed her year of service with us this month and has impacted our organization for years to come. She is positive and passionate, and has tackled every task assigned to her beyond expectations and with a smile.

AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, they create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

When Allison joined the WINGS flock in August of 2011 she was charged with 2 major projects- revamping our volunteer program, and developing new and sustainable partnerships; Lofty endeavors, among other tasks, that she readily poured herself into. Both initiatives have not only been executed successfully, but will continue to expand and strengthen because of Allison's passion and hard work.

We had roughly 10 people volunteering in our program regularly when Allison came on board, and since her involvement we've jumped to a pool of over 100 volunteers now helping our kids to soar, including tutor teams from local businesses and alternative spring break groups from across the country.

In terms of partnerships, Allison has cultivated strong and lasting relationships that will continue to benefit our kids. She headed up a dinner program at Chicora Elementary School via a partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank that provides well balanced meals to about 135 kids daily. She also worked with Earth Force and ensured that kids successfully made it through their curriculum, and additionally organized the attendance of around 45 kids at the Earth Force summit.

"Allison is amazing," says Regional Operations Director Nicole Lovecchio." "Her determination and dedication have helped WINGS become a better program." She was able to take tasks that have been on the back burner for years and turn them into useful and valuable pieces of the WINGS program."

Allison has left a lasting legacy and while we are sad to see her go, we're elated to give her WINGS as she soars on to what is sure to be a very bright future.
