He has WINGS

Andre Johnson

Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans is scoring some serious points - for kids!

In what has become an annual tradition, the big-hearted NFL player treated a group of underprivileged kids to a Toys "R" Us holiday shopping spree!

The 12 kids, selected with the help of Child Protective Services, ranged from age 8-16 and were given 80 seconds (Andre's jersey number) to run through the aisles and fill their carts with as many toys as possible.

"You hear a minute and twenty seconds and you don't think that’s a long time, but you'd be surprised by what these kids can put into their buckets," said Andre after his foundation picked up the $19,521 tab on the seemingly never ending receipts (pictured below).

"Every day when I wake up, I ask myself, 'Who can I add value to today,' because it's not about me. It's all about helping someone else. And at this time of the year there are many opportunities to help less fortunate children have a great Christmas," Andre told ABC13.com.

All of the children who took part in the spree live under the care of people other than their biological parents, and have had to face tough circumstances early on in life.

Andre himself came from less than ideal circumstances and has hopes that the kids his foundation seeks to help can learn from his example. "A lot of these kids get discouraged because of where they grew up and things like that. I grew up in a single-parent home and I was fortunate to achieve my goals," he said. "So, whatever goals you have, just keep them out in front of you, don't let anybody distract you away from them, because there will be distractions that try to detour you away from your goals. That's the biggest thing."

It's with great joy that we make sure this wide receiver receives a wide pair of WINGS fitting the large span of his shoulders and generosity!
