AmeriCorps National Competitive Grant awards more than $200,000 to WINGS!

Momentum is building around WINGS right now as we prepare to grow and serve more kids across the nation. AmeriCorps just patted our back with a national grant of $203,059!

337 applications were submitted for the AmeriCorps National Competitive Grant and just 53 programs were funded nationally — WINGS being the ONLY South Carolina organization. "This year, the number of applications increased over last year, and organizations requested nearly twice the number of grant dollars and AmeriCorps positions than could be funded. In the end, we were only able to fund the most exceptional proposals" said Patrick A. Corvington, CEO of AmeriCorps.

At WINGS, all of our WINGLeaders, are corps members. Every day our WINGSLeaders work directly with the 460 kids we serve at our four programs, teaching them the social and emotional skills they need to succeed in school and in life. What's great about being an AmeriCorps member is that each WINGSLeader receives an education stipend at the end of the school year.

"WINGS is now funded through the AmeriCorps national fund versus its state fund, and that means we can apply next year to serve students outside of South Carolina. This is a big step in expansion preparation" Bridget Laird, WINGS CEO said.

We're on cloud 9 over our AmeriCorps award — its proof that national organizations want to support WINGS as we prepare to go national.

The Post and Courier helped spread the news on our win — read the article here.

"Some men look at things the way they are and ask, 'Why?' I dream of things that are not and ask, 'Why not?'"
