Bright Lights, Big City - WINGS Finalist in Major Competition

WINGS was just named one of the finalists in the Social Impact Exchange's annual business plan competition. More than 100 nonprofits submitted strategy papers outlining their growth models. From that group, 29 organizations advanced to the second round and submitted full business plans. From the 29 nonprofits to make it to round II, three are going to New York — and we're one! Chief Executive Officer, Bridget Laird and Director of Business Affairs, Adam Pomerantz will represent WINGS.

The Social Impact Exchange (SIE) is a collaboration of nonprofit professionals, academics and donors focused on the scaling of high-performing nonprofits and further developing the field of social venture capital. They recently received $1.8 million in grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Rockefeller Foundation. The grants will support the Exchange’s next phase of growth and development of a growth capital marketplace to connect philanthropists and investors with successful, expansion-ready nonprofits that are spreading proven programs on a national scale.

The goal of the competition is to help develop a strong pipeline of growth ready organizations and to provide them with the resources to successfully take the next steps in their growth trajectory. Despite all the important work accomplished by nonprofit organizations over the last several decades, significant growth or scale has remained an elusive goal for most of them. The inability to achieve scale — that is, to make a meaningful and sustainable impact by serving larger numbers of those in need of assistance — has limited the potential of these organizations and the people they serve.

WINGS is at a pivotal point in our growth. We are diligently preparing for scale-up so this could not have come at better time for us. Scaling up means thousands more kids will have the opportunity to soar!

Our future plans have been a long time in the making, so we're thrilled to see our hard work paying off. We have our fingers and WINGS crossed!
