Maya Angelou

On May 28th, the world lost an extraordinary woman who's way with words will live on indefinitely. What we all loved about Dr. Maya Angelou was her perseverance, self-awareness, empathy, and social awareness --- characteristics we teach our kids every day. Dr. Angelou paved the way for social and emotional learning whether she called her craft by that name or not. We thank you, Dr. Angelou, and we are certain your heart smarts will live on after all, you are the "people's poet."

Here's a great blog from the New York Times on Teaching Maya Angelou.

Listen to Maya Angelou recite her poem "Still I Rise," a poem she wrote to "remind everyone they're worth so much more."

Thank You!

May 6th was Give Local America's online day of giving. WINGS participated in Lift The Lowcountry and raised more than $90,000 (that number hasn't been incentivized yet!) and blew past our goal of getting 80 gifts by nabbing 147 in 24 hours. THANK YOU, Friends!

Our friends at Ashoka featured WINGS as "an after school program that revolutionizes how we teach our kids empathy." See the post here.
