Over the past year, new friendships have blossomed between the 4th graders at North Charleston and Mason Preparatory School through our Kindred Kids program. A yearlong pen pal program, Kindred Kids helps kids celebrate their uniqueness and differences as well as their similarities. By writing letters, sending video messages, creating artwork, telling stories and meeting in person, the kids learned a lot about each other and a lot about themselves.
With Boeing headquarters being based in Charleston, we are lucky enough to "fly" with them frequently! Yesterday, about 15 engineers came to North Charleston Elementary School to engage our kids in really fun STEM projects.
STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, helps WINGS kids get a leg up in school. By building catapults and making slushies, our students are learning the basics of science and engineering in a fresh and fun way! Thanks for flying high with us Boeing!
12.9 MILLION kids live in poverty in the US. Too many of these kids are being lost.
They drop out of school, become teen parents, are victims of violence, or abuse drugs and alcohol. They struggle to survive against the odds. WINGS makes a difference. Our programs help the toughest kids in the toughest schools learn the life skills they need to be successful. AND, we provide a safe place to call home after school.
