WINGS Atlanta scored BIG on GA Gives Day!

On November 13, 2014, WINGS for Kids - Atlanta participated in the 3rd Annual Georgia Gives Day, 24 hours dedicated to raising as much money as possible for the 1200 participating nonprofits in the State of Georgia.

We packed as much into the day as we could, beginning with a presentation about WINGS for Kids at the Gilbane Group, a commercial construction company.  They'd specifically requested WINGS due to our innovative approach to closing the achievement gap among kids most in need.

That presentation was followed by a visit from a major local funder and a new media partner to our WINGS program at SL Lewis Elementary School.  Our guests were able to participate in Community Unity and to assist WINGS kids during Academic Center.

In between, WINGS Atlanta Executive Director Denise Blake gave an interview for WABE to discuss the importance of GA Gives Day and the increased opportunity to showcase our work.

The last component of our day was a fun-filled dine-out at our local Zaxby's restaurant.  More than 50 WINGS kids and their families, along with 20 WINGS staff members, came out to enjoy dinner, face-painting (and a bit of leftover Halloween candy).  Ten percent of the proceeds went to support WINGS programs at Heritage, SL Lewis, Love T. Nolan, and Bethune Elementary Schools.

What a flaptastic day!
