WINGS Sparks Friendships and Celebrates Differences

Over the past year, new friendships have blossomed between the 4th graders at North Charleston and Mason Preparatory School through our Kindred Kids program.  A yearlong pen pal program, Kindred Kids helps kids celebrate their uniqueness and differences as well as their similarities. By writing letters, sending video messages, creating artwork, telling stories and meeting in person, the kids learned a lot about each other and a lot about themselves.

Kindred Kids came about in the wake of the June 2015 Emanuel AME Church shooting and was created in order to address society’s call to action to take a stand against racism. With this goal in mind, WINGS set to connect people from different walks of life. The best place to start, WINGS felt, was with the open minds and hearts of the future, our kids.

Together these 4th graders fly high - celebrating new friendships, new experiences and learning, most importantly, that what makes us different is what makes the world an interesting place.
